Summary: Curbside Food Scraps Pickup
When: Aug 01, 2021
Time:14:00 - 15:00
Description
Hate to trash food scraps but can't compost yourself? Want to reduce your household waste by up to 50%? Not have a smelly trash bin? Get quality compost? Reduce your carbon footprint? Save your septic?
There are many reasons to sign up with our preferred partner, Black Earth Compost, for a reliable weekly curbside pickup service of all your organics, including food-stained newspaper and napkins, flower cuttings, meat, grease, cheese and even bones. Here is the full list of what you can put in the bin.
At this time, we have 51 Wayland household subscribed! Help us get to 100 by the end of January!
In the spring you can either receive a voucher for a bag of finished compost, redeemable at participating Garden Centers or you can donate your compost to Backyard Growers.
Incredibly, over 51% of the trash that goes to landfills is compostable. In the US, we trash roughly 60 millions tons of food each year, not only wasting valuable resources (food, and organic fertilizer) but also contributing to methane, a gas with a warming potential roughly 21 times that of carbon dioxide. We’re putting a stop to that, household by household, town by town!
Here is a three-minute video that shows you all you need to know.
Businesses like restaurants, schools, and assisted living can use this service too: email us at info@energizewayland.org, and we'll put you in touch for exceptional commercial organics pickup.
